Project information
For this project, I focused on the problem of racial injustice here in America. I started with a lot of research on different people that fought against racial injustice in the past and how people are still fighting for justice today. I wanted this project to involve, inform, and develop an understanding for my audience because in the United States this is a big problem that needs to be fixed. In this project, I create an infographic, poem, and a tile mosaic.
Contextualization
Contextualization is the idea of taking two or more things from a separate context and putting them together to create something new. Through this project, you will see contextualization in each subject. In the history share of my project, I incorporated contextualization by taking bits and pieces of history to create a mind map. For English I used contextualization by taking a variety of quotes said by different people to create one compelling poem. Lastly, for art, I took two separate situations that showed racial injustice and put them together on one art piece to formulate a bigger picture for the audience.

For the History part of my project, I started with a lot of fo research on racial injustice over time. I focused my research on Jim Crow Laws, Segregation, Plessy v. Ferguson, Poll Tax, the Grandfather Clause, Ku Klux Klan, and the Literacy Test. After that, I created a document where I wrote down all my research, I wanted to create something to organize that research. So I formulated a mind map to organize, but also show connections. After that, I took all that information to create my finished infographic. Below is the finished infographic.

For the English section of my project, I started by collecting different quotes that stuck out to me. All of these quotes were about racial injustice said by different people at separate times. Then I went through these quotes and picked out pieces of them I appreciated the most. After that, I created my first draft of my poem. Next, I played with my words, got rid of some lines. I also created a draft where I color coated each line and show who said what. I wanted this poem to express something to the reading and make a point. For the art section of my project, I started by finding two pictures that I thought showed the problem of racial injustice here in America. Then I took those two photos and pasted them to a wooden block. After that, I took scraps of glass, ceramic, tile, and more and surrounded the photos. You will also see some broken and shattered glass, I did this to represent the broken system. Between the photos, I used red, white, and blue to represent the United States of America. Then I took grout and spread it along the tile pieces, and cleaned it up with a wet sponge. The finalized product is presented below.
